HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 3

Directing that the bridge spanning
the South Fork of the South Branch
of the Potomac River on U.S. Route
220 in the Town of Moorefield in
Hardy County, West Virginia, be
hereafter named and referred to
as the "Wendell 'Del' Hester Memorial
Bridge".
Whereas, A bridge spanning the
South Fork of the South Branch of the
Potomac River on U.S. Route 220 is
located in the Town of Moorefield
situate, in the County of Hardy; and
Whereas, Wendell Hester adopted
Moorefield as his hometown after
growing up in Chicago, Illinois; and
Whereas, Wendell Hester is
preceded in death by his wife
Dorothy, and is survived by
daughters, Wendy, Holly and Rebecca, and son, Jeffrey; and
Whereas, Del was a noted
philanthropist and staunch believer
in the American way of life and the
American Dream. He achieved his
dream through his extraordinary
talent as a promoter, innovator and
trailblazer into the field of
further-processed poultry products.
His products are still the superior
benchmark against which all competing
companies are based; and
Whereas, In 1993, Del received
the West Virginia Master Entrepreneur
of the Year Award, and in 1996 he
received the Distinguished West
Virginian Award. Naming the bridge
at Moorefield in honor of "Del" would
be a fitting tribute to the
remarkable accomplishments and
distinguished life of Wendell Hester;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the bridge spanning the
South Fork of the South Branch of the
Potomac River on U.S. Route 220 in
the Town of Moorefield in Hardy
County, West Virginia, be hereafter
named and referred to as the "Wendell
'Del' Hester Memorial Bridge"; and,
be it
Further Resolved, That at least
two signs be erected at the bridge
designating the name of the bridge in
such manner that motorists
approaching the bridge from either
direction on U.S. 220 may easily view
at least one of the signs; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk
of the House is hereby directed to
forward a copy of this resolution to
the County Commission of Hardy
County, West Virginia, and the
Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Transportation and to
the Hester family.
